Mahon is a senior volunteer firefighter at Anzac Station in New Brighton, and has been there for four years. His heavy outfit and breathing-assist mask would protect him, but every second counts when lives are on the line. Senior volunteer firefighter Shaun Mahon holds his infrared camera in front of him, opens the door, and walks, almost blind, into the fuming entrance to join the other fighters. Dylan Walker reports SWEAT BEADS down his brow and into his eyes as he struggles to look into the cloud of smoke leaking out of the door. We depend on them for the safety of our communities, but we sometimes forget what it costs them.
